Last week we learned that Jesus prepares His disciples for a profound shift from His physical dependency to the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
After three years of shared victories, corrections, and sacrifice, the news of Jesus’ departure—coupled with warnings of severe persecution—justifiably filled the disciples' hearts with grief and panic.
However, Jesus reveals that His departure is not an abandonment, but a promotion. By sending the Holy Spirit—the Parakletos—the divine presence shifts from only being with them externally to also being in them internally.
Ultimately, Jesus shows that true comfort is not the absence of external storms, but the internal supernatural presence of the Spirit of Truth.
Guide: He leads you and shows the correct way. Speak: He communicates what He hears from the Father. Show: He reveals things to come beforehand. Glorify: He magnifies and celebrates the finished work of Jesus
John 14:15-19 15 "If you love me, obey my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn't looking for him and doesn't recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you. 18 No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you. NLT
Orphan: One who has lost their parents, one who was born an illegitimate or unwanted child!
Many times, these children were abandoned on the streets or in public spaces
Jesus says, He will come for the Orphans!!
Until a believer comes to understand that the Holy Spirit is in them, they will continually feel abandoned! (empty, forsaken, discarded, 1-million)
The Orphan spirit
I want you to recognize that this isn’t a spirit, but a trauma or demeanor!
Because many want to blame it on a spirit, not to take responsibility!
During childhood, our brains rely heavily on mirror neurons to learn how to navigate the world. We unconsciously absorb the demeanor of our primary caregivers.
Growing up with emotionally or physically absent, abusive, or highly critical parents creates a deep void where a loving parental bond should be.
Experiencing severe betrayal, abandonment, or rejection in relationships teaches a person that they cannot trust anyone.
An orphan spirit heavily distorts how a person views and relates to God because they naturally project their experiences with earthly authority figures onto our heavenly Father.
Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD): Children may struggle to form healthy emotional bonds with future caregivers or mates. They may push people away due to a subconscious fear of further abandonment Persistent Grief and Sadness: Orphaned children frequently battle chronic loneliness and a persistent sense of helplessness.
The "Orphan Archetype": Clinically, individuals may suffer from a lifelong feeling of being "different from the herd" or naturally unwelcome. They may carry internal shame, falsely believing they were abandoned because they were not "good enough."
Today, if you feel like an Orphan, if your outlook on life seems dim, I have good news for you today: Jesus will not put you out to fend for yourself. He is coming for you!!!!

Rom 8:14-15 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. KJV
As a person who has been born of God, the Holy Spirit wants to move us from an Orphan (child) mentality to Maturity! (Heir)
Led: to lead, convince, stimulate, guide
Implies a continuous active surrender to the Holy Spirit
He wants to guide, speak, show, and glorify
Sons: a descendant, one of the heirs of anyone
To be led means I must learn how to follow! (surrender)
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. KJV
spirit: a disposition or attitude Bondage: to be a slave, to serve. Servitude, dependence, the state of a slave.
The disposition of a person in which they are prevented from freely possessing and enjoying his life!
Again: The idea of oscillatory repetition, familiarity Fear: That which causes flight, fear, dread, terror
The Spirit of Adoption
Have received: to take to oneself, lay hold upon, take possession of
The Spirit: Holy Spirit
Adoption: A compound word from huios ("born ones") and thesia ("placing").
No Disowning: Ironically, under Roman law, a biological son could be disowned, but a legally adopted son could never be disowned, because the father chose him deliberately, knowing the cost.
The "Other Self": The law viewed the adopted as an exact extension of the father—becoming "one with him" in the eyes of Roman society.
John 17:20-23 20 "I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. 21 I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me. 22 "I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. 23 I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me. NLT
Cancellation of Debt: If a person had astronomical debts, legal adoption legally canceled those debts instantly. The past ceased to exist.
Cry: to cry, i.e., call out aloud, speak with a loud voice with deep emotion
Abba: father or daddy
This passage captured the essence of the metamorphosis from a servant/orphan mindset to full sonship and spiritual authority.
What will we do with this information?
As one born of God, will you allow the Holy Spirit to reveal your legal right as an heir of the Father?

Will you live your life as an orphan
An orphan spirit believes God's promises are for everyone else, but not for them.

Possessing Your Promise
Step 1: Fix Your Focus (James 1:5-8)
James 1:5-8 5 If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. 6 But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. 7 Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do. NLT
Living in a victim state of mind as a child!
Step 2: Change Your Language (Romans 10:8-11)
Rom 10:5-13 5 For Moses writes that the law's way of making a person right with God requires obedience to all of its commands. 6 But faith's way of getting right with God says, "Don't say in your heart, 'Who will go up to heaven' (to bring Christ down to earth). 7 And don't say, 'Who will go down to the place of the dead' (to bring Christ back to life again)." 8 In fact, it says, "The message is very close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart." And that message is the very message about faith that we preach: 9 If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved. 11 As the Scriptures tell us, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced." 12 Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. 13 For "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." NLT
Stop speaking your fears and start speaking the Word.
Speak the promise until your heart aligns with your faith.
Cultivate daily faithfulness. Be obedient in the hidden, small assignments, trusting that they are stepping stones to your ultimate inheritance.
Gal 4:1-7 4 Let me show you the implications of this. As long as the heir is a minor, he has no advantage over the slave. Though legally he owns the entire inheritance, 2 he is subject to tutors and administrators until whatever date the father has set for emancipation. 3 That is the way it is with us: When we were minors, we were just like slaves ordered around by simple instructions (the tutors and administrators of this world), with no say in the conduct of our own lives. 4 But when the time arrived that was set by God the Father, God sent his Son, born among us of a woman, born under the conditions of the law so that he might redeem those of us who have been kidnapped by the law. 5 Thus we have been set free to experience our rightful heritage. 6 You can tell for sure that you are now fully adopted as his own children because God sent the Spirit of his Son into our lives crying out, "Papa! Father!" 7 Doesn't that privilege of intimate conversation with God make it plain that you are not a slave, but a child? And if you are a child, you're also an heir, with complete access to the inheritance. (The Message)
